Ikea Zapatistas!

Rise up Cincinnati! Don't go like sheep through the automatic sliding doors of the Ikea retail slaughterhouse. Think different! Try something... wait for it... USED!

I challenge you to post your favorite local places to buy furniture - used furniture stores, consignment shops, thrift stores, antique malls, even flea markets! And if you know of a good local shop that makes their own furniture or sells locally-made, regionally-made, or at least American-made furniture, let us know about them too! Recycle, reuse, or at least buy local.

I'll start with the first suggestion...

Woodcraft Furniture - it's not used, but they do make their furniture in America - State College, PA, to be precise. It's all solid wood, and you can get it in tons of custom finishes and glazes. The shop also sells other manufactures' stuff, but all or most of that is also solid wood and I believe it's all made in America.

The furniture at Goodwill is usually horribly ugly, but you can't beat the price. I'll admit to having bought more than one piece of furniture there in the past.

Mainly Art and High Street. Not sure where they purchase from, but the are locally owned and operated.

Hi there, I came across your site, glad to see you are back in action. It's a great looking site. I couldn't get the contact submission form to submit, so I thought I'd drop you a comment. Would you be interested in doing an exclusive Q&A with comedian Paul Mecurio for your blog? From April 3-6, Paul is going to be in Cincinnati for a couple of shows at Go Bananas Comedy Club. An Emmy and Peabody award-winner for his work as a writer on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Paul has been working on a number of other interesting projects recently including working and touring with the Bob & Tom Radio Show. He also just published a feature in the NY Times Magazine that played on his Consumer Man jokes that's been making the rounds, have a look here: http://tinyurl.com/36vvbp.

When you get a chance, let me know if you're interested in setting something up. The full show details are below and for more on Paul, check www.paulmecurio.com. Looking forward to hearing from you! - Emaleigh, emaleigh@canarypromo.com
